Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue bought and donated 5 sets of pet oxygen masks to both Sumpter and Van Buren Townships as well as the city of Belleville. On Sunday July 8, 2007 there was a house fire right next door to our shelter! A cat was trapped inside and a firefighter went into the burning building, brought out a limp cat and proceeded to give her oxygen through our donated mask! The cat is fine and stayed with FMAR until the family found a new (pet friendly) apartment to live in until the family's home has been re-built. What a great ending to a tragic story.. and what a wonderful thing Help Animals Inc. made available to purchase for our communities.
The story was picked up by one of our local newspapers and Channel 4 Local News. I have attached the link for you to see the Channel 4 interview.
